Sometimes people tell me: "You're so considerate when acting or speaking as a manager."

Apart from the fact that this might not be true (I try to be humble), the explanation is rather simple but I can't tell often, because you shouldn't talk bad about your previous managers (The explanation of why is simple, but not the topic here).

But for today I will be blunt:
A lot of the things I do or avoid doing are something I learned from my previous managers. Sometimes by good example, but way more often by bad examples.
And if you are sort of hypersensitive for interpersonal vibes, being at the receiving end of a manager's actions you experience first hand, often painfully, how a certain action or something they say feels. And if it feels bad, you will memorize this and never do or say something like that yourself.

I don't say that these managers were bad people. They have never been taught, what people management is. They often were good engineers and were promoted to a managerial role, which is fine if that's what they wanted.

But they never learned about psychology, sociology, communication theory, neurodivergence or DEIB.
Some of us pick this up while progressing, some don't. And some of us laser focus on people management, because it's one of their special interests 👉👈🥹
