Nils Skirnir on Nostr: A great piece of investigative reporting by the AP on prison labor (aka slave labor) ...
A great piece of investigative reporting by the AP on prison labor (aka slave labor) in the US. It primarily focuses on the food industry, which misses much of the prison labor issue. But it covers much of what`s evil about it as forced labor, punishment for refusing, incentive to imprison more people, hypocrisy vis a vis China and others, the origin of slave/prison labor, and why the slave states (and their buddies) lead the way.
What is misses is that this slave labor is used in many other industries as weapons assembly, call centers, technology product assembly, etc. But good bit of reporting which must have been undertaken at great risk and great cost - prison industry doesn`t play around.
One other point is that as long as financial incentives exist for prison labor, US could easily turn back into a slave/indentured servant state. Especially if the peasants get too uppity.
