I'm gonna get a little personal here so, heads up.
The absolute number one reason I can't stand this system is this: I never got to see my father in the most formative years of my life.
Living in Walla Walla, my family wasn't doing well financially. We had to live with my grandparents because of debt. My parents tried to keep it under wraps but I knew.
My father needed a better paying job because we were struggling. Unfortunately, the only substantial work - the only work that would make some kind of future for us, was a four hour drive away.
I'd get to see my father once every two (sometimes three) weeks. It was a small amount of togetherness on Saturday and a little on Sunday morning. I remember being upset everytime he left.
I thought, why can't you just stay here? Why can't you find work that pays? Just work here, near us! Why is that your owners do nothing, yet they get paid more than you? Why can't you all be paid the same thing?
Little kid me thought this and big kid me screams this every damn day.
