Tesla's autopilot is provably more prone to failure than others, but 17 fatalities and 736 crashes with their drive/hours puts their crash and fatality rate at around 1/9 that of a human driver, the calls for banning autopilot in the article are absurd when the data they're quoting is literally saying it's safer than human drivers.
That said though, if you want self driving or electric, skip tesla, basically everyone else is better at both.
