I assume she means 'public interest' in the press freedom sense - ie. justification for personal revelations - but it's still bizarre.

What's interesting is that she seems to be a bit different from other families of former slave-owners that are apologising and exploring reparations, because although their family wealth ultimately derived from slavery, they no longer have any direct link to it, whereas Sanbach still seems to own the slave plantation land and is still profiting from it.

What's also interesting is that there are lots of precedents for the return of real property (eg. land, buildings and artefacts) that has come to be regarded as illegitimately seized to its original owners - it happened with Nazi seizures, for example, and with post-war 'communist' state seizures in Eastern Europe.
