Earlier I posted about the ubiquity and simplicity (relatively) of WordPress. The same is true of PHP.
I think #php gets a bad rap because it's accessible to beginners, while being incredibly powerful for experts.
Beginners tend to write beginner code. If that's what the world sees, they label the language as being bad, because the code they see is bad.
But I've seen gorgeous PHP code written by experts.
Same is true for WordPress - beginners make mistakes, experts do amazing things.
