I grew up in craftsman houses and have worked on many. Doesn’t change the fact that older houses develop problems with components (plumbing / wiring / foundation / HVAC / windows / etc) that make them depreciating assets. The new house will depreciate too, but at the time one is new and the other isn’t, the new one is worth a lot more.
A lot of older cars are better than new cars, but they’re still substantially cheaper. Because they’re already fucked up and will need repairs, whereas the new ones won’t likely need any repairs for many years. Exactly the same concept.
