I think Trump's dead serious. Nor do I think he's completely wrong in his assessment. However since he's a narcissist, he doesn't gaf how his asshole behaviour will have long term effects on the international relationships concerned. He's a cutthroat business man who does things out of spite in addition to personal gain and self-aggrandisement, without regard to collateral damage. He'd stomp on your face to get to an extra nickle on the ground.
Ultimately this tariff (on both sides of the border) will mainly effect businesses and taxpayers, while for the government it's essentially just another form of tax grab. Turdeau and the Canuck premiers thinking they can "retaliate" with their own tariffs will do nothing to help the citizens (like me) who have to pay the price for it through the cost of goods and services, at a time when that's already egregious thanks to the plandemic. But maybe given a few years time we'll come out the other side stronger and more self-sufficient? Who knows.
Personally though I think on paper the USA's constitution is way better than what we have here in Soviet Canuckistan, I wouldn't want to be a 'Murican simply because their government is corrupt to the bone and targets their own citizens just as much as any foreign enemy (which are frankly countless). The Canuck government might wish it could do that kind of shit here, but doesn't have the same scale of resources, which is a saving grace frankly, at least for now. Trump might pretend he's going after corruption, but I think you'll find at the end of the day he's mainly interested in punishing people who opposed him, and really has only superficial interest in the rights and freedoms of the republic. He's just using those as a cover and justification for his personal vendettas. $0.02
