But you may have to arrange yourself with the fact that you are going to make music, better to "program music" (as this is the historic background of those things) with a spreadsheet app :)
Kinda similar to hardware sequencers.
That may seem to be off turning or cold or non expressive at first.
But as every instrument it grows on you. And to make it grow on you, it takes time. You'll be frustrated fast, if you don't accept this.

Nowadays the best tracker (arguably but mostly agreed with) is Renoise where you can use all your VSTs and even Linux LADSPA (which unfortunately is an older standard, there are better things around now) virtual instruments/effects. That is a real live changer, because now you can eq, compress and all that mix-relevant stuff, which was a pain in old skuhl trakkers.
