We added push for this reason and with retention as the motivator after we saw our appstore retention numbers… so yeah. I should check to see if they have improved. Push is great for people who don’t open the app often and forget about it.
Lessons from the bluesky-verse: add notifications to your app for user retention. Bsky spams you with notifications (even of single likes) by default. It's working. I keep opening the app. Copy it.
