npub1a9…9mqqg on Nostr: trying to keep a drowning ship afloat (especially when you're living in one) is so ...

trying to keep a drowning ship afloat (especially when you're living in one) is so much harder than designing and building a "greenfield" project (a project where nothing exists yet).

i have a very hard time re-envisioning a structure when one already exists in that place.

even if the structure is crappy and probably does need to be entirely scrapped, until it actually falls apart beyond repair, i'm very unlikely to blow it away and build anew.

sometimes you can build a new structure/system in a different area of your place, cannibalizing parts and functionality from the old system while building the new. this also allows you to continue relying on the old system while you make the new.

but then i wonder "where do i put the new structure?" "is it really necessary - the current one still works" and i get lost in decision paralysis.

it's also hard because i am a low-energy, low-motivation, low-standards, high-laziness, high-inertia, kind of gal. so i *will* let things fall apart before making a new one.

so even if i can envision a new structure, can guess where it might go, can guess at the materials it'll need, my needs are so low and my motivation is so low that i'll probably just say "eh, screw it" before actually doing it.

if anyone has tips for a person like me, please let me know. 😭 🏚️ 🛠️ ⚡ (unfortunately, i suspect that "greater self love" is part of the solution here - so that i want better things for myself and am actually motivated to improve my surroundings. but i haven't managed to figure that one out: how to have a desire for better things for myself.)
