#ThinSectionThursday Here's a lovely festive rock from Unit 5 of the Eastern Layered Intrusion on the Isle of Rum. The 1st pic, using crossed polars, shows a large bright crystal of clinopyroxene enclosing swarms of grey-white elongate plagioclase feldspar crystals + a smaller number of bright blue, green + orange elongate olivine crystals. The 2nd picture shows the same rock under plane polarized light. Field of view about 2mm across. #Geology #Microscopy #HappyChristmas
