Just updated to 17.2. Re the stickers - agree interface is not obvious, but works ok (the submenu also allows you to get info for stickers, so you could add them to your library [would love Jason’s air dancer!]).
Stickers will have to be carefully chosen - they are small. Emojis are ok.
In terms of the positioning, I don’t really see a problem with the overlap - if you press the message the stickers move away - if you can’t work out/remember the message.
