Unsolicited advice is toxic, particularly if that advice comes from reading books or taking a class instead of actual lived experience.) Adding the word "should" to that advice makes it 1000 times worse. It's patronizing at best, bullying if you're in a position of power. If you feel compelled to "help," step back, think, and then express what you were going to say as a story. "I tried that once, and here's what happened…" If you haven't tried it, then hold your tongue. (Though, I suppose it would be okay to say, "I read about that in <this book>.) Don't give advice; share your experience, and even then, only if asked.
And, of course, I see the irony in this advice . Here, though, you can ignore it. I will not be in the least offended. In-person is another matter entirely.
