#Turnitin tried to prevent universities turning their ‘AI detector’ tool off, because they did not believe its hype and its undocumented lab evaluation. They only allowed it to be optional when legal threats were made and a large group of UK universities wrote a letter of protest. They now admit that indeed, as the sector suspected, it does not work well or perform anywhere near what they suggested in unevidenced assertion.
