Pawn Dev on Nostr: The need for the first cause of all things comes from aristotelian philosophy and was ...

The need for the first cause of all things comes from aristotelian philosophy and was refined by saint Thomas on his 5 proofs. The reasoning is that for something to have being it can either have being in itself, which means it exists permanently and eternaly, or it must receive being, that is, it had no being one time, and has being in other, aka, it is a created being, a creature. If this "lineage" of creation had no first one, it would go backwards infinetly, and this would mean that the universe has an infinite lifespan, which means there is an infinite time in the past. But an infinite time never ends, it never passes, and if there is an infinite time behind us, how did it pass and how did we finaly reach the present time? Time would never pass because infinity never ends. From this, we can presume that something transcends time itself and exists "before" time (in quotes because without time, the idea of before makes no proper sense). This "before" is what is called eternity, and this eternity is that Being that has being in itself, and didn't get it from any other prior to it. This explanation is not perfect, but the argument goes something like this. You can look up Aristotle's physics and metaphysics for a more indepth understanding. It is not evident, but when it is rightly understood, it is de facto undeniable. There must be a God, a First Cause of all being.
