When the first #covid vaccines rolled out, discussions between vaxxers and antivaxxers were a daily topic.
My former friend, who got vaccinated, talked about her co-worker, who didn't get vaccinated because he was scared of long-term negative side effects. She commented something like: "Well, even if it turns out to be true, at least we'll be the majority. Almost everyone's vaccinated, so we'll all experience these side effects. He'll be an outcast then. It's better to have the side effects like everyone. Like, what would it even matter then to him that he's not fucked like us?"
She said this like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Sometimes someone says something that is so far away from your own logic that you can't help but remember it and ponder about it. I keep thinking about this thing, wondering how many people are not clueless about long covid, but just thinking 'at least I'll be in the majority if it happens, just like I am right now by not masking'.
