Gane and Sarson and other structured system analysis based on data flow use a constrained form of graph analysis. There are two main relations (data to / from). There are three classes (data store, entity, and process). Levels explode (zoom in) on process. This aids in human cognition, as it conceptually breaks down the amount of info in a way that makes sense. It seems like a person/place/thing with levels based on class plus distance from center, three zooms, might work with one relation.
