Ok, it's come up and I've got to know: does durian smell like garbage while you're eating it, or is it just the stuff you have to remove when preparing it? If the former, is the garbage smell something that only bothers gringos? I've never had durian and I'm just trying to conceptualize it. If it's a "cilantro tastes like soap to some people" thing, that's okay too. I'm really not judging, I'm just at sea on how anyone would want to eat something that smelled like garbage since taste is like 90% smell. I figure I must have hold of the wrong end of the stick somehow, since durian is very popular. Set me straight please.
