‘Anti-science’ stances really are more about authoritarian control than anything else, which is why anti-scientism is so unabashedly hypocritical. It is a form of virtue-signalling: by getting people to adopt irrational and self-harmful views, the leaders of these movements demonstrate and strengthen their control. Every internally inconsistent and self-harming view the followers take, and every tie cut or relationship broken by it, deepens the sunk cost of being part of the community
