I'm often conflicted about my "years of experience". On the one hand I'm very proud of it - I've seen all sorts of promising technologies come and go, lots of products crash and burn. Lots of tech history.
On the other hand I know it wasn't the most efficient use of my years. I never had mentors or people I "looked up" to - I was drifting for the first ~15 years of my career, just struggling to make ends meet, and never even thinking about a "career". I learned, but by brute force, by myself.
