Before there was TikTok, there was Vine. I rember seeing a lot of viral Vine videos in the 2010s even though I never even used Vine, but they were everywhere on Tumblr. Then Vine ran out of money and vanished. Some time later, TikTok came and filled the gap. And when it became clear that TikTok would be staying for a while, Instagram tried to copy it by adding short vertical videos. And later, Youtube did the same.
I, however, don't understand the appeal of a platform dedicated entirely to short videos in portrait format. Never have. I find those rather annoying. Therefore, I don't think I will ever use such a platform, whether Vine or TikTok or anything else.
