I've been thinking and listening a lot about the SBR debate. I like to hear good arguments on both sides before forming an opinion. I'm still thinking through it but here are my thoughts so far.

My biggest critic of the pro SBR position is that its proponents always use the same word "we" when referencing it. "We can buy bitcoin", but in my experience I've never seen the gov act as a "we", I've only ever seen them act as a "they", "they will buy bitcoin".

The distinction is important. Hayek believed that gov was incapable of spending money properly(also see TheGuySwann (npub1h8n…rpev) give a shit chart), regardless of the type of money. "we shall never have a good money again until we take it out of the hands of gov".

I disagree with the collectivist idea that a group can own anything. Individuals can own things, but a group, even just two people, will run into extreme conflict trying to own a single thing. How, what, where, why, do we spend or consume our property becomes a constant battle. I'm sympathetic to the idea that an SBR can protect American normies who won't protect themselves, but I don't think the SBR will be used as social security 2.0, and even if it starts that way, look how successful the current social security is at managing money.

Bitcoin is money that can be truly owned by the individual for reasons we all know, but it doesn't have to be owned that way, we can give up our independence to a gov/collective/group that pretends to represent us, but really just represents the leader of that group. Even if you think the current leader of the group is altruistic, there is no guarantee the next one will be.

All this to say my opinion doesn't really matter, bitcoin is for everyone, including enemies. gov's, companies, all manner of groups will own bitcoin and that's fine. If people want to be dependent on a group leader then who am I to judge that because I value independence, I too am biased.
