Mastodon and Thread’s default, 500 chars, is already much bigger than Bluesky (300) and Twitter (280). (It’s called microblogging for a reason:) Many people are annoyed by long screeds. Without constraints, long winded people would swamp timelines with verbiage (even if concealed by a read more). At least a thread lets us opt out of reading more.",
