If you didn't catch it, the moral of the story is - whenever someone says something is a "special proprietary part"? Chances are, that's a heap of crap.
Custom parts are expensive, so unless you're Apple, you just don't do it. That is, unless the custom part is cheaper than the subassembly it replaces.
This applies especially to parts like bolts, nuts, washers, snap-rings and O-rings. Most of these are covered by ISO, BS or DIN standards!
Why? To keep production costs down...
