Right. AOL threw their users onto the Internet with basically no warnings or instructions. These poor souls thought it was all AOL and would post really dumb stuff. And the Internet at the time was mostly University folks so you could guess how well that went. It was basically a giant episode of The Beverly Hillbillies. At that point even having an .aol.com address was seen as a sign of ignorance. It wasn’t entirely their fault, but it was messy.

That being said, ActivityPub is not going to be a big thing. It’s a niche product for a niche audience. I like it. But I just don’t see it becoming a big thing.
