Not really any different to how kings used to marry off their sons and daughters during medieval times in order to secure land or support or other advantages for their respective kingdoms.

In fact, it's better than those, because the spouses here would be making their own decisions, and there also seems to be no expectation of actually living together, let alone sleeping together or producing offspring (which was generally a non-negotiable condition of the aforementioned medieval arranged marriages).

'Course, if you want to marry for LOVE, then this deal is not for you. But again, it's cool, because the decision is entirely yours. :-D
