Got my first Wi-Fi equipped washing machine last month. Our laundry is in a partly finished basement, not a great place to chill.

On balance, getting an iPhone alert to tell me my wash is done is a quality of life improvement, compared to having to listen from upstairs and past a closed door (for the last washer's buzzer to go off).

I Have Thoughts about looping into yet another vendor's cloud and app infrastructure to make it happen, but yay for convenience.
