It doesn't really work with galactic timescales, since the date field is yyyy-mm-dd. As long as stuff is playing out in CE on Earth this works well.
If your aliens/worlds have other ways of counting time (like, say, a 1.3 Earth years long year, and count all cyclic dates down, rather than up, and also use base-6) you are out of luck.
