My dad gave me the radio series on tape as a gift so that was my first version, then the books, then the TV series. I found it so funny and exciting but I was also completely charmed by Arthur! I think it's not a coincidence that I found this very strong connection to him at a point in my life where everything I knew before seemed to be changing and I was being carried along by events I didn't understand
