The days of the Tory front bench being full of devious, cunning political thinkers is long past.
I feel there's a significant element of ignorance and incompetence here, that they don't have anyone left who has any genuine understanding of it beyond classical, simplistic demand-side inflation models.
But they're also likely averse to listening to any experts, because any suggestion to address supply-side inflation is likely to be ideologically problematic for much of the Parliamentary party, and certainly unacceptable to many of their important supporters/donors.
