It's always interesting when I interact with old friends, some of whom I'd REALLY expect to do better than to dive right into the polarization shoveled down our throats by the various powers that be.

I think at the end of the day, there's been a sort of wholesale giving into fear going on. Those we may have seen as courageous not 10 years ago for daring to be themselves in public, suddenly terrified that the orange man is going to come for them, willing to give up more than they even think to recognize to be kept safe from perceived threat.

Meanwhile, people who practice giving of themselves to those less fortunate, and champions of liberty, driven to the point of utter inhospitality at the prospect of someone daring to move about the Earth while being poor, all but begging for cages so long as it means those other people are kept out.

It's really not a good look for anyone. So much for Home of the Brave.

If I were to try to formulate a solution, it'd have something to do with cultivating courage in yourself, and doing what you can to bring it out in others. Sometimes that means making sure our neighbors know we have their back. And sometimes it means being brave enough to call them out on their cowardice, and compassionate enough that they don't perceive it as yet another attack.

A lot easier to type than it is to do.
