When Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, met Philly Joe Jones, Moon asked Philly Joe if they might get together for some of the jazz icon’s advice on Moon’s playing.
Moon was hoping to get a few tips from the master.
Philly Joe agreed. They met in a studio where Moon had set up his drums.
“Play something for me,” Philly said.
Moon launched into an all-out, blistering, full-volume, hard-rock, patented Keith Moon drum solo.
“Can I ask you... something personal?” Philly said.
“Sure,” Moon replied.
“You make a lot of money playing like that, right?”
“Well, yes... I do,” said Moon.
Philly Joe stood up. “Well man," he said, "I don’t want to be the one to ruin it for you,” shook hands, and left.
