It's a weakness of our primitive chimp brains that places a premium on being able to hold a thing to prove its worth. Indeed the most valuable "things" are not tangible (e.g. love, courage, integrity, loyalty, natural rights, TIME).
The "hold-ability" of a thing is really just a crude proxy for its underlying proof-of-work. Most just fail to make the connection.
