I remember when Smartphones started becoming the norm and people would joke about how they are like a Star Trek Tricorder.

Yet... They are useless at local environmental data. My phone can't even tell me the temperature without a Internet connection.

All of the features are only useful when combined with The Internet, and then only when I'm allowing Google or Apple to slurp up and use that data for profit.

Please give me a Tricorder.
