Ugh hated that movie. 2 hours of Neill Blomkamp's crypto-Marxist manifesto posing as a screenplay.
Technology along with any semblance of a free-market society has always and will always lead to an enhancement of living standards for everyone. Sure, maybe the people on the space station have "med beds" that cure all diseases, but once things get that advanced for the rich, whomever is considered "the poor" in that society would have medical technology orders of magnitude more advanced than anything we have today. This will happen simply because technology is information, and information can be shared freely.
"Cyberpunk dystopia" is a tough thing to get right, but it doesn't work if the only thing you've read is Pinketty and The Atlantic.
