Massive farmers protests today in #Poland with postulates very similar to those earlier heard during protests in #Germany - EU Green Deal is killing European farming. In my view these postulates are largely rational and respond to consequences of EU policies severely felt by farmers on the ground:

On one hand, EU Green Deal sets ambitious goals for sustainability of European farming which means massive increase in production costs.
On the other hand European Commission insists on extending the #Ukraine ability to sell cheap cereals on EU market - the regulation that was originally intended to allow for transit of the grain through the EU, but was promptly abused by some trading companies to what farmers describe as “flooding EU markets with grain” at dumping prices… because Ukraine of course isn’t subject to EU Green Deal

I would love to see some reasonable explanation for these contradictory policies but so far I see none.

Looking at what EU has done with its industry - enforcing prohibitive prices of energy and environmental standards while at the same time opening flood gates for cheap production from China with no environmental requirements which led to EU manufacturing folding and obviously moving there - I’m a bit concerned that we could see the same in food production.
