Dissident Sound on Nostr: 99% of homes in my price range have regular sinks while only about 1% have farmhouse ...
99% of homes in my price range have regular sinks while only about 1% have farmhouse sinks ( pictured below )
a farmhouse sink is about $200 more but only about 1% of half-a-million-dollar homes ( entry level new construction homes in US ) feel you deserve that $200 upgrade, even though a farmhouse sink is both more durable and more spacious than a regular sink and is a solid upgrade for something that is used multiple times every day and i would never consider anything else if i was building custom.
on other hand decorative exterior features such as non-structural stone veneer and excessively "cut up" multi-gable roof designs are found in 90% of homes in the same price range despite being much more expensive to make and serving no function whatsoever.
what is worse is that 99% of people who DO opt for homes with a farmhouse sink do so PURELY because they like the unique look and are COMPLETELY UNAWARE that this is actually the only right way to do a sink and is only rare because it costs more to make.
the reason it costs more to make is because it requires thicker steel that needs to be cut, formed, welded and polished whereas regular sink is just thin stamping.
and if you think that's dumb my research revealed that the reason many homes have two 8 foot garage doors instead of one 16 foot door is because wives think two doors look "cute" even though most of them can't drive through a 8 foot door without scraping the sides of the car.
the average normie is simply not capable of considering the function and performance of objects - ONLY THEIR AESTHETIC.
and here lies the rub - the BASIS for aesthetics is function. high performance is beautiful. sickness and death are ugly. therefore a person who can't judge performance also can't judge aesthetics.
and a person who CAN judge performance ( me ) can also judge aesthetics ... BUT HAS NO USE FOR DOING SO, because aesthetics is only simulacrum of performance anyway.
