Evil Is Itinerant on Nostr: Calling all squad cars! I want to buy a pair of over-ear headphones. I only want to ...

Calling all squad cars! I want to buy a pair of over-ear headphones. I only want to use them sitting at my desk, so Bluetooth is not a concern, and in fact I'd prefer wired over wireless, though my preference is for headphones that have an aux cable input of some sort so I can replace it if it breaks.

But that's not what I need advice on. I've found two sets which meet my needs and are roughly the same price. One has active noise canceling. One doesn't. The ANC pair is wireless, but can use an aux. The non-ANC pair requires an aux.

The problem is that I don't know whether the ANC pair will allow you to listen while you're charging. Many Bothans have died but this information is not forthcoming from the company, although the tech support person to whom I spoke was very nice. I also don't know if, when the battery runs out, you can still use the headphones wired without ANC. The ANC pair is slightly more expensive with fewer ratings overall.

My question, I guess, is whether ANC is worth the hassle. I've always wanted to try it, but I'd rather get a decent pair of phones that will last than fool around with wireless nonesense. Neither of these pairs is high price, let me just say. I'm not overly picky in this case because I can't afford to be. The sound quality of both has been determined to be acceptable by a jury of my peers (my current solution is a pair of earbuds I purchased at the dollar store, if that tells you what you're dealing with), so it's really down to whether ANC is worth it. My gut says no, but I'm throwing it out there. Any thoughts?
