Mastodon and federated social media require labour. You have to choose a server. You probably have to choose an app to use. What are the differences? It’s quite confusing.

Add the fear of missing out as well. The masses want celebrities. Most people just want to follow, or be handed the messages of, popular people. That doesn’t happen here.
