My guitar playing experience took a significant positive turn when I decided to close my eyes and treat the fretboard like braille. It had the effect of focusing a massive amount of my mental bandwidth through my ears. This in turn sped up the development of muscle memory as well as awareness of some of the more delicate details of playing like tuning, tone, vibrato, bending, improvisation etc. I would highly encourage you to be open to squashing (at least some of the time) your desire to look at a screen or lean too heavily into tech oriented training wheels, the benefits are subtle but significant. Cheers.
