There are also serious downsides to the term "anthropocene", because it makes it seem humans as a biological species is the cause. That's a much too broad statement: there are and have always been people living in harmony with nature, who don't deserve any of the blame.

The question is: who gets off the hook when humankind gets equal blame?

IMO "capitolocene" or "plutocene" is a much better term.
