That also happens in larger construction zones. Driving on the autobahn both in Germany and Poland last weekend I again noticed how precarious the construction sites in Poland look. German autobahn construction sites have an inbuilt buffer in case someone doesn't notice the signs and rips through the markings at 200km/h. Polish construction sites don't.
