The illusion is sustained by proximity; I have four friends who have each cleared the $100M mark, and one over $1B.

Adopting a more egalitarian view means giving up on that illusion. There's a lot of resistance to doing that. Everyone wants to win the billionaire lottery. Even a collective action like joining a union means giving up.

These are the attitudes that need to be changed, and it's not going to be easy.
