Thanks for posting this article. I haven't read it before, though I'm familiar with Jack Powelson. I picked up his book from our meeting house library, "The Quaker Economist: Global Issues of Concern to Quakers". He raises fair criticisms that I largely share (the classic liberal label fits me pretty well). I know he's also spent a lot of time and generous energy trying to wake some folks out of their political drunkenness.
The dominant strain of thinking in liberal, unprogrammed meetings is definitely pretty left. That's not the rule for everyone, however. My meeting has a good mix. My guess is most folks vote Democrat, but I don't know because it isn't front and center. That's partly due to our history of schisms in the 1800s and a later reunification that kept the best of both sides.
As the Sunday School coordinator, I value our diversity of thought. Mostly, parents just want their kids to feel they have a choice. However, defining "What's a Quaker?" remains something of a do-it-yourself journey.
I teach the teen group and recently led a five-class series on money. After every class, the adult volunteers expressed sincere appreciation and surprise. Bitcoiners would've felt at home in these discussions, though I never mentioned Bitcoin.
That said, my economic views and studies are somewhat compartmentalized from Sunday.
