For my 'birthday' holiday this year (2024) we visited Herefordshire and visited quite a few places including Goodrich Castle.

The first fortification at Goodrich is believed to have been established shortly after the Norman Conquest (1066) by Godric of Mappestone, from whom the castle’s name is derived.
Initially, it was a simple wooden motte-and-bailey structure, which was later replaced by a more formidable stone castle.
