Interesting article on N loss from maize and wheat systems. Of the environmental issues facing humans I think fertilizer pollution of water is a most interesting case. It is a concrete example of negative externalities. Because of the pollution is non-point source it is extremely hard to track. This problem challenges my libertarian leanings. It seems like a situation where a free market results in a degraded ecosystem.
