There is a difference between a safe driver and a good driver.
They don't necessarily overlap.
A good driver could drive 12 hours a day 100mph everywhere and therfore be more likely to wreck than a bad driver who drives slow 1 hour per week.
His reflexes are better, he could park perfectly each time. He avoid many situations the bad driver would no be able to.
That's why some statistics say men are "worse" drivers. They drive aggressively, angrily.
But their driving skills are in fact superior.
They just take more risk.
