I adjusted fail2ban's jail bantime from 10 minutes to 1 day, and suddenly the attacks on my sshd dropped from ~1000/day to less than 10. Not that it's necessary since the only way to login is by ssh key with quite secure algos, but at least my intrusion detection logs aren't so ridiculous now.
