Not to mention quite a few systems don't even use the starter motor - they stop the engine so one piston is just below TDC, then spit some fuel into the cylinder and fire the spark plug to restart it. When the engine's warm, that's enough to get it moving again. Looks like Mazda, Honda and Porsche do this, among others.
